Can't download gallery files "Could Not Locate this item"

Hello, so I've been playing sims 4 since the release and I've built up a large tray folder full of gallery downloads. Not long ago, I noticed that when opening older gallery lots, I get a message saying "Could Not Locate This Item". All of the thumbnails beside the first one are blanked out. I can't access my own builds or downloaded ones from others because of this popup. It's extremely irritating because now I can't get back all of my old builds.

I've looked everywhere online and tried everything including repairing my game, checking my anti-virus software, removing mods, clearing game cache, clearing origin cache, etc and I can't find a fix. Now I want to note that I am not getting the red X's like everyone else having this issue is saying. I don't know what else to do. Please help :/

  • @devyx11  It looks like most or all of your Tray items are missing files.  For reference, this post lists the various file types:

As you can see, every type of item includes a file with a .trayitem extension, which many of your clusters of files (grouped by timestamp) are missing.  Those that do include a .trayitem file are still missing something else.

I don't know why these files would have disappeared—maybe you were running a program meant to save space that flagged these files as extraneous and deleted them.  Point is, if you can't find the missing files, then I doubt there's anything you can do to recover the associated library entries.  I once tried to delete one of the files at a time and recreate a dummy version, hoping that the game could still recover enough info for me to place a given lot, and I got nowhere, but you could try if you wanted.  The key would be that the name of the file, the string that comes before the file extension, would need to match exactly.

Hopefully you uploaded at least some of these Library items to the Gallery, in which case you can download them into a clean Tray folder, and they should work fine.  But otherwise, there's unfortunately not much you can do.

  • @devyx11  Try loading one item in a new Tray folder.  Move the existing folder to the desktop, then move back the set of files for one item, likely three to five depending on what kind of item it is.  You can tell them apart by sorting the contents of the Tray folder by date: the files for a given item you saved or downloaded will all have exactly the same timestamp.

If one item doesn't work, try another one.  You can also move over a few at a time, but more in the range of three to six, not a few dozen.

While I'm adding files back, I'm following your exact instructions and still, the gallery lot comes up with the same popup.

@devyx11  Please post a screenshot of the Tray folder that now has a few of your old files in it.  Include the address bar, above the list of files and folders, in the screenshot.

For background, I moved my files over to my D drive for space a while ago, and I have a junction folder in the C drive so it can read my files. But I know this isn't the problem because I tried having them in the C drive originally and they still had the same problem.
