Things I've tried:
* rebooting
* installing from a different Windows account
* running as administrator, then not as administrator
* having the origin app already up before installing
* having the origin app completely shut down before installing
* entering the product code into the origin app before installing, then attempted to install both with and then without the origin app running first
Considering EA has been aware of this problem since September (I found a thread from then that said they are investigating), it's sad they still haven't figured out a fix (or at least I couldn't find one). I guess I'll have to download the 8+ GB and make my daughter wait until tomorrow to play.
i think i've got it. i uninstalled everything..origin app, etc. Then i disabled my antivirus and windows firewall. then i opened the install disc and right clicked on the autorun app and selected "run as admin". after that it seems like everything is working. working slowly, but working. it is definating loading from the dvd.
