Re: [Patch 1.117 on] When Loading ANY Household, Returns to World Select Screen

After installing today's update, I'm having the same problem as others in this section. When I click Resume Game from the main screen, I see a loading screen, but the game navigates to the World Selection screen instead of the last household played.

When I select a world and then select the household, I see a loading screen, but then navigate back to the World Selection screen. I have tried to play several households, with the  same result.

If I revert to DX9, I can load a household, but only if I don't enable script mods. When I enable script mods while using DX9 (even if there are no script mods installed), I see the same results as I do using DX11.

I have removed all script mods from my game. I have not removed CAS items (mostly hair meshes and clothing), because I am still re-dressing naked Sims from the last time I removed all my cc for a new pack, and I have very little interest in starting over with that exercise.

Long story short, I can only play using DX9 with script mods turned off. Since I am not willing to play without MC Command Center, I really cannot play the game at all.

cdkscully  You need to repair the game through Steam since that's where you've installed it.  Open your Steam library, right-click Sims 4, and select Properties > Installed Files > Verify identity of game files.

rachgrabill  Please remove your entire Mods folder and test again.  You don't need to save your progress.

Your computer has DirectX 12 installed, which is backwards-compatible with DX9 and 11.

I believe a mod/cc is broken for the Sims 4 and I'm unsure how to fix it. I can see all mods and create a sim perfectly with no issues. Once I move them into a lot and try to load the lot, the game just sits on the loading screen. I've waited up to 30 minutes but cannot actually play the game. It looks like I'm running DX12 though?

ChanelCultura  Please describe your current issue in more detail.  Please also let me know whether it happens with no mods or custom content present, as in, you remove the Mods folder and delete the localthumbcache file.

If your main save is still affected, let me know, and please try a new save as well, for comparison's sake.

ScottB9  It's not an EA-side issue—most players are running Sims 4 in DX11 mode without any problems.  If you'd like help troubleshooting the issue on your end, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

I spent 6 days not being able to play troubleshooting only to find out the switch to dx11 was what was keeping me from saving builds to my library or the gallery.

My PC is only a year old, Windows 11, and well equipped with plenty of capacity, fully updated, but builds aren't savable with dx11 even in a newly generated game with all mod options turned off.

Putting -dx9 in the Advanced Properties field fixes things for now but I'm worried that won't be viable long-term and my game might become unplayable at some point. I wish EA would formally address the entire dx9/dx11 issue to provide some instruction so players aren't in the dark on the issue.

Same. Good to know it's not my mods, too.

Thanks for the suggestions. Sadly, upgrading my graphics driver didn't help. I can still only play under DX9 with script mods turned off.

Thanks. I've already tried a repair. I'll take a look at the graphics driver situation.

Update: Updating my graphics driver did not resolve the issue. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

arjaygee  You should be able to run the game in DirectX 11 mode, but you may need to repair after removing your mods, depending on which mods you had installed.  In the EA App, click Sims 4 > Manage > Repair; in Steam, right-click Sims 4 and select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of the game files.

If that doesn't help, the issue may be your older graphics driver.  You can get the newest driver Intel has provided for your graphics chip here:

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/785597/intel-arc-iris-xe-graphics-windows.html

Run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Restart after instaling and before trying to play.
