hey, thanks for the help, and sorry for the late reply, but like I said, my laptop is pretty old and as I remember it, it was my father who gave it to my sister who had finally given it to me, so long story short, I don't really know much of the system or settings on here so I'm having some trouble running the dxdiag and finding my anti-virus, thank you so much for the help though.

@thesaturngirl561 If you need help with either, can you ask a family member or friend? Running a dxdiag is extremely simple: click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the box in the lower-left corner, wait for it to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop. You should see your antivirus somewhere under Windows Settings > Update & Security; the exact path may depend on your operating system.

I finally got the dxdiag to work, but the anti-virus, not so much. I kept searching for updates and security on my laptop and couldn't find it, I have a feeling I'm one step closer to getting my sims back though.
