Deleted onedrive and now my game wont load

I deleted one drive and accidentally wiped my whole documents folder. It wasn't backed up on one drive, but I had a backup of my saves and tray files downloaded on my computer. The issue is that when I try to open the game from EA, it loads for a second, closes the EA app as if the game was about to start, pauses for a second, and then reopens the EA app without loading the game. I've tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling it, repairing it, but the game just won't open. Help!!

  • @morevae  I see some Sims 4 crashes in the dxdiag, but if those are from before you moved the Documents directory, they can be ignored.  There's nothing else particularly concerning.

    Did you run reg query before or after restarting your laptop?  Sometimes it takes a true restart (not even a shutdown/reboot, certainly not a sleep/wake) for the change to disseminate fully.  You can check which folder Sims 4 is using if you want to be sure of that at least:

    For the registry itself, have a look at the value, to make sure it didn't revert.  If it still says what you told it to, then that's your answer.  The Command Prompt command is a query of the registry, so it's second-hand information, so to speak, as opposed to your first-hand info when you check the value yourself.

  • @morevae  The first question is where the Documents directory on your computer is currently located.  (The system will have several Documents folders but only one directory.)  Sims 4 uses this location if it can.  If it's still in OneDrive, but OneDrive is gone, the game may not be able to write to the folder at all.

    Please search in Windows for Command Prompt, open it, and enter this command, starting with reg query:

    reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" /v "Personal"

    Let me know what you find, or if you'd rather handle it yourself, you can change the location back to whatever you want, including the default:

    C:\Users\your username\Documents

    using this guide:

    https://www.elevenforum.com/t/move-or-restore-default-location-of-documents-folder-in-windows-11.8708/

    or this one if the first fails:

    If none of this helps, please let me know where the Documents directory is currently located, according to Command Prompt.  Please also run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

    I used the Microsoft link and was able to change the default from the registry since the first link didn't work. Thankfully, I was finally able to load the game after I restarted my laptop. However, when I run the reg query in the command prompt, it still shows one drive. Should I be worried about that? I attached the Dxdiag because why not. Thanks for all your help so far!

    The crashes occurred before I moved the directory unfortunately. I ran the reg query after restarting my laptop, and it still shows the location as one drive and then documents. In the registry, it's the correct directory, and my game is working now so I guess that's all that matters.
