I am writing this post to report to The Sims Team that The Sims 4 still performs worse in DirectX 11 compared to DirectX 9—ESPECIALLY in situations where the camera is zoomed out or looking toward the horizon with many objects or trees present.
I captured these images in Tomarang, looking toward the horizon. In the first image, with the game running in DIRECTX 9, The Sims 4 maintains a steady 60 FPS, sometimes reaching 61. In the second image, with the game running in DIRECTX 11, there is a drop of over 20 FPS in the same camera position. This is significant!
GAME IN DX9GAME IN DX11For users with very powerful graphics cards, losing a few FPS might not be noticeable—after all, the game is excellent above 60 FPS. However, for systems with less powerful GPUs, every frame per second matters for a smooth and enjoyable experience.
The specifications of the machine I used for these images are:
- Windows 11 Pro
- GeForce 1650 4GB
- Ryzen 3600
- 24GB RAM
- NVMe SSD
I’m not sure what your future plans are, but the thought of DX9 being phased out worries me, as it would force me to play in DX11 with this poor performance.
Recently, I even came across a tweet from a user mentioning the same issue, or something very similar.

My impression is that the game in DX11 runs smoothly in smaller worlds. However, in larger worlds with denser decorations and vegetation, performance tends to drop—especially in scenarios where the camera is zoomed out or looking toward the horizon.
In scenarios where the camera is zoomed in, the game tends to perform well in DX11—even when zoomed in looking toward the horizon in heavily vegetated areas. The issue mainly occurs when zoomed out, in very crowded neighborhoods.
I appreciate your attention in advance—thank you!
