EA App closes after loading on Steam Deck (Linux)

I've downloaded the Sims through the Steam Store. It was working find at first. It's now doing this thing where the EA App loading window opens, closes, then it shows in my library that the game is no longer running.

I've backed up my Documents>Electronic Arts folder, then tried:

  • deleting proton, verifying file integrity then running.
  • using this protontricks tutorial: link.
  • uninstalling the game, reinstalling, then running the fresh install. The EA App Loads then closes without creating an Electronic Arts folder in the Documents.

EDIT: I found an alternate way of running the EA App, by using Lutris instead: tutorial. So far it's working.

  • @dragon3025  Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the EA App?  I'm not familiar with Steam OS, but can you launch the EA App separately and before trying to play Sims 4, and if so, does the game work then?

Uninstalling the Sims 4 on Steam Deck uninstalls the EA App with it. It all goes into a sort of pretend c drive located here:

    /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1222670/pfx/drive_c

    so:

    • EA App Location: /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1222670/pfx/drive_c/Program Files/Electronic Arts/EA Desktop/EA Desktop/
    • Sims 4 Documents folder Location: /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1222670/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/

I tried adding EA App as a non steam game, but it wouldn't launch it, so then I set in compatibility to use proton experimental, but that didn't work either.

@dragon3025  I was going to say I'm sorry, I don't have any other suggestions here, but it sounds like you've figured it out.  That's great, and thanks for updating the OP.

If you run into issues in the future, you're better off asking on a dedicated Linux or Steam Deck forum.  I asked around, but no one else I talked to has the Linux knowledge to help with this kind of problem.  This forum is almost excluslively Windows users, with the occasional Mac person; I don't even know of anyone who plays Sims 4 in any version of Linux.
