Empty tray

So I downloaded a new mod and there was a part of it I was supposed to put in the tray, so I did. My tray was completely empty until I put that mod in. I loaded up my game and had a bunch of lag so I exited and checked my tray which was then filled with over 3000 files! I trashed and permanently deleted all the new files and decided to take out the mods tray package to prevent that from happening again. However I loaded up my game to find that my gallery is empty? I had soooo many houses and households on there I didn’t want to lose! Could that be related to the tray somehow? And if so why was my tray empty before the mod?

The Tray folder contains all Items in the Library so deleting all content in that folder deleted everything in your Library. I the future I advice that you seek guidance before deleting files that you have no idea what does. The tray folder was never empty. Rightclick the Game in Origin and select Repair to get the default items back. The rest is lost unless you had the good sense to make a backup.
