Forcing me to download unreal engine help?

Hello, i've been a long time sims player and with the update and the for rent bugs i'd been experiencing my game was unplayable - i tried to uninstall it and then re download but i ended up restarting my entire computer from factory reset. that being said besides the free pack i'd gotten nothing off of epic games to the point i truly cant even find the account i made for it - but every time i go to load sims 4 it tells me i need unreal engine 5 - not sims 4 jungle adventure but unreal engine 5 i've uninstalled the game im going on my 3rd time but i dont know what im doing wrong after playing fine for 4 years then this? so any help would be amazing

  • @0oogie  The error just means that the EA App is trying to link to the Epic launcher, which isn't installed.  I'm not sure why you're required to download the Epic launcher again, when it shouldn't be necessary after the first time you launch Sims 4.  But you can try just installing the launcher and running it as an admin before launching Sims 4.  Right-click the Epic launcher's desktop shortcut and select "Run as administrator."  You can do the same with the EA App.

One alternative is to unlink your EA and Epic accounts, if you can figure out enough account details to do so.  Here's how:

The other alternative is to let Epic install the Unreal Engine, launch Sims 4 once, uninstall the Epic launcher, launch Sims 4 again to make sure you don't still need Epic installed, and then get rid of Unreal.  That is, to go along with the demand one time and then uninstall the unnecessary extras afterwards.

  • @0oogie  Can you download Sims 4 through the EA App instead?  You should have access to your Epic-owned packs as long as you're using the linked account, and the App won't suggest you install anything aside from Sims 4.

And no, of course you don't need to install Unreal 5, or any other game engine, to run Sims 4.

Thats the issue i am downloading it from the EA app and this is still happening i've never used epic for anything - so im very confused on whats going on and how to fix it i only downloaded EA app and steam - that's all i use and i got uninstalled twice now because its asking for an epic games link.
  • @0oogie  I have no idea why this would happen and can't find any recent reports of the Epic launcher trying to install the Unreal Engine.  Maybe it's just accepted and no one cares, but that seems unlikely.  At any rate, please post a screenshot of the error.

If you install Sims 4 through Steam, are you still asked to install the Epic launcher too?  That shouldn't happen: the Steam version of Sims 4 is independent of Epic, and it should run with nothing more than the EA App involved.

For the Epic Games link, my understanding is that it's not required after the first launch of Sims 4, but the tie-in between Epic and EA isn't always reliable.
