Game crashes while saving

I've spoken with two different advisers today for help with my game, and nothing that's been suggested has worked. My game constantly crashes when I try saving it, and randomly crashes on plumb bob screens (whether I'm starting up the game, travelling, etc) and I have no idea what else to do. Here's what I've done today that ended up unsuccessful:

-Uninstalled Origin, reset Internet Explorer, restarted my laptop, and reinstalled Origin. I received a 'The Sims 4 has stopped working' error on the start up screen, and then my game closed.

-Deleted all files in my Origin folder (except the LocalContent folder), deleted the Origin folder, restarted my laptop, then logged back into Origin. This process seemed to have fixed the problem. I was able to play for a while, and I was even able to save once without it crashing, but when I tried to save it again at a later time, I again received the 'The Sims 4 has stopped working' error, and again, it closed.

I have also tried deleting 'last exception' files from the EA folder, restarted my laptop and uninstalled+reinstalled Origin multiple times, and nothing has worked. I'm starting to assume that maybe my laptop doesn't meet certain requirements to play the game, but while in chats with EA advisers with my DxDiag attached, I was never told that was the problem. And if it is a problem with the laptop itself, I have no idea how to tell what meets the game requirements and what doesn't!!

Any help would be appreciated. (:

  • @mysttique7  Crashing on the plum-bob loading screen on start up is a common indicator of bad or out of date custom content / mods.  By chance are you using CC/Mods ?

If playing with mods and custom content, move your mods folder to the desktop, clear your game cache and delete the localthumbcache.package from the Sims 4 folder to help with troubleshooting.

Try playing the game again to test without the mods folder. If it loads okay, it may be that some of the mods/cc have become outdated.

    How to Delete Cache Files

Custom content can become outdated with most new game patches. If the game works when the Mods folder is removed, then one or more of the mods and/or custom content has become outdated and will need to be removed or replaced. EA/Maxis aren't responsible for broken mods/cc. It's up to the creators to fix.

Disabling or turning off both mod/cc options isn't enough of a test.

    Try the 50/50 method:

    1. Move all the mods and cc out into a temporary folder on the desktop.
    2. Move a few files back at a time. Load the game to make sure it loads and everything is good.
    3. Delete the localthumbcache.package from the Sims 4 folder.
    4. Repeat steps 1 - 3 till there is no more files to check.

** While your testing, don't save the game. If you find any problems, delete the mod or custom content file.
