Game Crashes

Hi! I'm experiencing crashes when I try to play the Sims 4. Whenever I enter CAS my game will either crash in CAS, crash when exiting CAS and trying to re-load the household, and also crash in an entirely different save file when I try to exit the main menu after successfully loading the alternate save file's household. I'm really at a loss on what to do, because I did not have this problem at all until the two most recent patches and have been unable to play.

  • @softestbreadloaf  Thanks for the dxdiag.  If you're using ReShade or GShade with Sims 4, please remove it and repair the game (EA App game library > Sims 4 > Manage > Repair).

If that doesn't help, please try playing in a clean boot:

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

Don't open anything other than Sims 4 and the EA App while testing, not even a browser window.

Hi! I'm sorry for the late reply, I’m fighting a bad head cold. 😭 I just completed the steps you suggested and this is what happened: I was able to load the different save file and enter CAS without any issues and I was able to exit to the main menu as well. However, my main save file (both the MCCC backup and the main file) are not loading at all now. I still have the same custom content loaded into my game, but the other save file is much less progressed than my main one.

@softestbreadloaf  Maybe you got lucky and ran into multiple issues at the same time.  In particular, does the lot that won't load have the Off the Grid challenge?  If so, please remove it, which you can do in Build mode.  Choose Load Game and load to the Manage Worlds screen, then click the lot and choose to enter Build/Buy.

Please also go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and delete any lastexception files you see.  Try to load the lot again, after removing OtG if it has that challenge, and if the game creates a new LE, please provide it here.  You can copy and paste it into a reply (please use a spoiler tag), or create a .rar file, or delete the first line of the LE and attach it as a .txt file.

The lot does not have the Off the Grid challenge, but I cannot load the lot at all even loading through the Manage Worlds screen. ☹️ The loading screen goes on infinitely but I can still load into the different save. Is there any way I might be able to get the game to create an LE on the loading screen?

@softestbreadloaf  Just delete any LE you currently have, try to load the lot again, and see if you get a new LE.  There's a good chance you will.
