Game freezes when trying to quit

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.93.129.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Spend 15 minutes or more in BuildBuy, then attempt to quit the game. (Error occurs regardless of whether Save and Quit or Exit Game is clicked.)
What happens when the bug occurs? Game freezes entirely, but does not crash; PC as a whole is still responsive, but attempts to Alt-Tab/press Windows key/press Cntrl+Shift+Escape to bring up task manager are "blocked" by game window (e.g. Alt-Tab does not bring to desktop, Windows key brings up taskbar but won't close the game by right-clicking on icon, Task Manager opens but does not overlay.) Error does not self-correct even after being left several minutes, and PC has to be force-shutdown via power button.
What do you expect to see? Game quits as intended
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

The 15-minute time period is somewhat arbitrary, but is the shortest amount of time I've observed this happening in. Graphics drivers are up-to-date. See DxDiag.txt for further specs.

  • @tinyastrogeist you can try disabling your xbox gaming overlay in your settings -> gaming -> xbox game bar. However, I've noticed in the past that this does not always solve it.

Are you running any apps in the background? Discord, steam, ...?
  • Apologies for taking so long to get back to you--I wanted to give it a few days to really pay attention and see if some days it happened more than others/under what conditions, but then it just...stopped happening altogether? I haven't had a crash since I posted about it. It's so bizarre. To answer your question, yes, I've had it happen with Steam and Discord open (often simultaneously), along with a Firefox browser window. That's typically all I have going on for background processes at any given time, so nothing that would put my system under load. My only other thought is that lately I haven't spent much time in Live Mode lately/switching to BuildBuy, but I don't see why that would matter. I'll report back if it happens again.
