Has my laptop had its time to shine??

Although my laptop i THINK has decent graphics, and can run the sims (i have like 90% of the DLC as well + 10GB of cc/mods) the graphic quality just isnt how i remember it being and ive been having issues with cc even looking good in my game... even on highest settings.. im not even sure if its meant to be on its highest settings..

anyways, i am seriously considering just getting an actual desktop PC because i always seem to have some sort of issue with the sims.. even way back in sims 2 days and i would end up just buying a whole new laptop, so investing in a PC that can then be upgraded whenever it needs to be makes more sense to me...

These are my current specs on my laptop.. im pretty sure it does meet the requirements since i have been playing on this laptop since the sims 4 release date.

Operating System - Windows 8.1 64-bit

CPU - Intel Core i7 4700MQ @ 2.40GHz
Haswell 22nm Technology

RAM - 12.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 799MHz (11-11-11-28)

Motherboard - Hewlett-Packard 1966 (U3E1)

Graphics - Generic PnP Monitor (1600x900@60Hz)
Intel HD Graphics 4600 (HP)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M (HP)
ForceWare version: 399.07
SLI Disabled

Storage - 931GB Hitachi HGST HTS541010A9E680 (SATA)
931GB TOSHIBA MQ01ABD100 (SATA)
Optical Drives
hp DVDRAM GU70N

Audio
IDT High Definition Audio CODEC

Question i have is.. does it really meet the suggested specs tho.. i would love to be able to play on ultra with seamless gameplay and play with TONS of cc/mods (sorry im addicted ok i cant live with my cc)

Another question i have is at the time sims 4 came out so did this laptop so the graphics and everything were some of the newest stuff.. but fast forward 4-5 years i know some of my specs must be considered old but would that affect the sims graphic quality at all? especially since all the updates and new expansions, stuff and game packs (which i have all of them besides maybe 5 stuff packs) would that affect the quality if i am still using the same graphics card and never updating??

I guess long story short, should i be upgrading along the way as the sims 4 keeps expanding?

Sorry i am a bit all over the place so if you made it this far you are awesome. if anyone could pass along some info on this stuff or share their experience/knowledge with me i would greatly appreciate it!

@roberta591 oh wow! yeah for sure get a motherboard that will work better and actually have the keyboard work properly this time haha.

Thats great i have the better chip, is there different drivers i can download?? i still dont know much about graphics cards and how to get them to work etc. im not sure what types of drivers i could test out to make the chip actually work. Also, i ran dxdiag again and i have attached it could you check to see if it is picked up? its all like some foreign language to me, i tried looking it over, i did see a section that has the nvidia 740m but so did the first dxdiag i ran so im not sure what section i need to be looking at to see if the laptop is actually picking up the chip.

@roberta591 sorry for the double reply but i was google searching how to get your laptop to recognize the nvidia 740m and came across a forum and one of the replies said this -

"hello, so I was having the same problem. for me the solution was very simple. Just open your bios menu when you restarting your pc (in my case it was F2, i am using acer). in the bios menu go to MAIN then select the graphic card from integrated to swichible. Save and restart and all problems gone"

Is this worth a try or would that be something that could really mess up my laptop? i have never tried changing bios before.

@aly975  It is worth checking the bios but be aware different manufacturers may do thing different as today you have the UEFI to make changes in the bios. The bios is still there but now you have a different interface and you can now have more then 2Tb in a partition. there are more small differences but for backwards compatibility the bios is still there but going away fast. It is worth a check but beware there may be an option like that but worded different.

@roberta591 so i checked the bios (was following a video tutorial to figure out how to get there and find the graphics device option to change it from integrated to discrete) but my bios had no such option in the configuration part of it.. what does this mean now?
