High power usage

Started the playing the sims today, but maybe a minute into the game loading, my pc starts to sound like jet taking off and the power usage is Very High. Also my laptop is starting to heat up. I wondering what could be the cause of this? This the first time I've actually played Sims 4 on my new laptop and this problem only occurs when I play this game.

When playing demanding games like The Sims 4 the CPU and Graphics works harder. this creates heat which needs to be cooled. Make sure that the vents are not blocked. You may also want to look into getting a cooling stand for your laptop,

  • That's the thing... I've played games that are more demanding on this laptop and I don't have any of these issues. It's just this game and It's not even using a high % of my cpu, gpu,or memory. So I was wondering if there was setting I could change to fix this issue.

@jpkarlsenis right. When you hear that noise, that's your CPU fan turning on. It means your CPU is OVERHEATING and it's turning on to cool it off! The LAST thing you want to do is turn it OFF!

If you turn it off, you will melt your CPU and completely destroy your laptop!!

That sound is a GOOD thing.

It basically means your computer is getting SEVERELY taxed. If you want to reduce this, you'll have to lower the draw.  This means, reducing the settings in the game. Lowering the game quality, resolution, textures, everything until it's not taxing it so badly.

  • @Psychotps I know why my fan is turning on, I get that process. I was asking if there were some settings I can turn down in game so it wouldn't tax my computer so much. But yeah. I'll try lowering those things

@JazzieThuqqinz Basically just follow what the settings tell you. They'll say whether they increase GPU power/fps.

Carl's has a good guide on Youtube about the various graphics settings in Sims 4, if you don't know what they do.
