House building questions

Two hopefully simple questions for the community:

  1) I'm trying to build for my sim a chalet style house that has a balcony over an open area to the ground floor.  The game wants me to put down floor, on the second floor area, that I want to leave open.  I s there a way to get the game to do what I want, and if so... how?

  2) Using the wall tool to build the walls of the homes, can I opt to build in one grid increments instead of two?  The reason I'm asking is although I know this is just a silly game I'm sort of using this to sandbox a real-life house I'm looking to purchase in the foreseeable future and it would be helpful to not have to round all designs to the nearest 2-feet.

-additionally, what is the approximate dimensions of a single grid in the building space?

Thanks.

Hi @noblehousesrt.  Here is a link to a portion of a building guide that will explain how to create an open story (there are many more aspects to that particular guide that you may find helpful as well).  As for the grid increments, you are indeed constrained to go no smaller than the solid square grid line.  The grid square in game is usually said to be equivalent to about 2-1/2 sq. feet.  For more building inquiries/discussions, I invite you to take a look at our home on the forums: http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/categories/the-sims-4-gallery
