How do i use the kitchen/plumbing upgrade parts in the sims 4?

I have noticed that almost every time one of my sims finishes repairing a plumbing or electronic issue, like a broken toilet, fridge, etc. I receive a "plumbing upgrade part". It sounds like these parts would be very useful, but I have not found the way to actually use the parts. Does a sim have to be at a certain skill level to be able to install them? If so, which skill and what level? Or do I have to hire a service to install them for me? I would really appreciate some suggestions or any possible solutions. Thank you!

  • At level 2 you should be able to use the parts to upgrade objects.

Here you have an example how that looks on a sink:

@boarderlinecris, in addition to what @Phantomlover1717 stated, I just wanted to add that upgrading your plumbing (and electronics with higher Handiness skill) can be valuable. 😎 They can reduce the amount of breakage, or keep the item from getting dirty, or give a beneficial moodlet when using the item. 🙂  For electronics upgrading can also allow you to get a couple more radio or TV stations. 🥳 There are different upgrade parts: a general upgrade part, plus upgrade parts for plumbing, kitchen, and electronics.  If you don't have enough of a certain kind of part, you can always order more (for a price) on the computer under "Order...".

Also, whenever you repair an object, there will be a little pile of trash (if you have enough room for it) -- if you have a Sim dig through that trash pile, they can find even more parts, for free!  :eahigh_file: After you dig through it once, you can then throw it away.
