RAM is just one part but 8GB should be enough. Other important things are Graphics (most important), free space and to a lesser extend the CPU.
Are you talking free space on your hard drive or Ram to run?
For HD space, I have almost everything with the exception of a few small content packages and my EA folder shows 15G.
The site "Can I Run It" shows minimum 10GB space for the base game.
If Ram to run, I use 16gb and a Gforce 1660 super with 6gb. I'm sure this is overkill for sims 4, but I like to use MCC and set lot capacity or number of sims on lot to 200.
I like my lots full of life and interaction. It can get a little buggy with the music concerts and 60 ish sims attending on high FX setting, but it's still usable. Default I think is ... 20?
The recommended minimum system requirements from Can I Run It are:
CPU: Intel Core i5-750 or AMD Athlon X4
CPU SPEED: Info
RAM: 4 GB
OS: 64 Bit Windows 7,8, or 8.1
VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 or better
PIXEL SHADER: 5.0
VERTEX SHADER: 5.0
SOUND CARD: Yes
FREE DISK SPACE: 10 GB
DEDICATED VIDEO RAM: 1024 MBHowever, there is a sticky post above from EA im assuming? That shows different numbers. Might be worth a peak
