How to bring back CC after updates

Recently, my game updated for the "Monster under the bed" update. While I was gone, my roommate unknowingly started playing without backing up the custom content. I've tried taking out the CC, restarting the game, and putting the CC back into the mods folder. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to work. Any ideas on how to bring back my custom content?
