Inventory items not appearing and no water or fire particles

I have two glitches that started happening around the same time. Firstly, items in my Sims' inventory don't appear at all. This glitch also happens with storage items. This is particularly annoying ...

I tried that, and it didn't work.

I then tried again, this time, not only launching the game after factory resetting it without any of my previous data, but also actually playing the game. I made a Sim take a shower, and no water appeared. I then bought seeds and made him put them in his inventory, but they didn't appear when I tried to access it.
