Laptop for Sims 4

Hi There!

I usually play The Sims 4 on my PC with GTX1060 6GB, R5 2600, 16GB RAM, it runs the game smooth enough around 50-60fps for few hours before the game fps start to drop around 15-20fps everytime switching between livemode-buildmode, opening cas, and other that open pop ups menus. I tried everything to fix that issue, start the game offline, clearing cache, free some space, set it to high performance, capping the fps, lower the graphics, and reinstall it with only few packs, none of them works. I thought it just the game engine issue since my pc still able to run other games on ultra settings above 60fps without any fps drops or stuttering. But since not everyone has that issue, i start to think that maybe my pc is old enough and buying new laptop/pc with better specs could solve the problems.

I was about to upgrade my pc, but this june i'll be on college and i need a laptop instead a pc. So i'm currently looking for a Gaming Laptop that have better specs than my pc and could run The Sims 4 and all packs (without mods) in High-Ultra Settings with fps that stable around 60. Some friends told me to go for newest Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 and Acer Nitro 5 both with rtx3050, but i still don't know which one better to run Sims 4 since there's not many videos that show the performance of these laptops. And i've heard that between intel and amd cpus one of em has better performance on running civilization/simulation games but i don't remember which one.

I really hope that you guys here could help me to give advice and recommedations to decide what laptops to buy so i could have better experience playing the sims 4. And if u have another recommended laptops to buy, feel free to share. Thanks.

Btw, sorry if my english is hard to understand. English is not my first language.

  • @aiy9n2z7bufy  Without knowing where you're shopping for this laptop, I can't tell you what the best options are in terms of price and performance.  But if you happen to see a Lenovo Legion or an HP Victus in your price range, either of those would be a better option than an Acer Nitro or Lenovo Ideapad.  The latter two aren't bad, but their lower price is possible for a reason: lower build quality and less performance for the same components relative to the Legion or Victus.  I'd also take an Asus TUF over the Ideapad, but it's not really much better than a Nitro.

Having said that, it would be better to get a Nitro with a 3060 than a Legion or Victus with a 3050.  While a 3050 can certainly run Sims 4 with all current packs on ultra settings, a 3060 or even a 3050 ti would give you more room to accommodate future demanding packs or custom content or Reshade.

As for the CPU, which is better between Intel and AMD often depends entirely on which company's current-generation processors are newer, with each generation surpassing the previous releases from the other.  You probably read at some point that AMD CPUs are better for simulation-heavy games because they have more cores and threads over which to spread the sometimes large workloads.  But Sims 4 can only use 4 cores, so the important question is how fast the cores can run, not how many of them there are.  AMD laptop processors do currently run a bit cooler than Intel models, in case that's a consideration, but neither one is a bad choice here, and Sims 4's performance will be limited in almost all ways by the graphics card, not the CPU.

Having said all that, the issue you're currently seeing is random and not dependent on the strength or age of the hardware, so there's no guarantee you wouldn't see it again on your new computer.  I really don't know what else to tell you about this problem—it's been so stubborn and persistent that all of us ran out of ideas a long time ago.  If you haven't tried it already, a clean boot might help (leave the EABackgroundService enabled), and in testing that it would be best to make sure no other software is running.  But that has only helped a few of the affected players, with Razer software being the most common culprit.

@puzzlezaddict I am looking for a new laptop to use for playing mainly the sims 4 and hopefully paralives in the future and also for school work. I have around 15 gb of mods and most packs but not all. Hoping to buy more though. I currently use a dell latitude 3190 that I got from my school and the game is super laggy and everything looks rather pixelated. I have been looking around for a lightweight, quiet, not too hot, 14” laptop but I am having a hard time deciding since my student budget doesn’t really allow for anything more expensive than 10000 sek (around 900 usd I think). I don’t know munch about computers but I know I want 16 gb ram and 512 ssd. Some of my favorites look-wise are asus zenbook 14, lenovo ideapad 14, lenovo yoga 9i, and basically all macbooks but they are too expensive. I live in Sweden. Do you have any recommendations for me? 15” might work but not bigger than that. It is important that the computer is quiet during school activities. Thank you beforehand!
