Majority of CC missing from Mods folder after updating.
Hello, I am an active player of The Sims franchise for many, many years and have collected a lot of custom content + mods over the years in the thousands. I never once have had any issues before of content disappearing, but today previously to updating all of the content was in my mods folder, I did not even touch my mods folder nor would I ever delete almost all of my custom content. Then after today's update for bunk beds etc., I open the game and yes, in the actual game settings, the mods and script's was allowed, closed the game and reopened. Then when I loaded one of my saves almost all of my custom content was gone- yes, the custom content and script mods was on IN THE GAME SETTINGS. There is only a few pieces of custom content and mod scripts leftover in the folder. Yes, I have searched everywhere. Yes, I have looked through the recycle bin. NO I DID NOT DELETE ANY OF MY CUSTOM CONTENT, YES THE CUSTOM CONTENT AND SCRIPT MODS IS ENABLED IN THE GAME, the actual CUSTOM CONTENT IN THE MODS FOLDER UNDER SIMS 4 IS NOW GONE. This happened after updating. I know that I will likely never get back around 15,000 pieces that was DELETED from my game (I have the sims 4 on origin) after updating, but I would like to know if there is any possible way to get it back or somewhere I DID NOT PREVIOUSLY LIST IN THIS POST that it would have gone to. No, this is not as simple as me just re-downloading as the custom content spans from many years therefore is too much for me to ever download again. If the custom content is unrecoverable, which is not on my end, this is because of The Sims 4 or Origin or both post updating, this will be bringing my end to playing the sims ever again. Thank you.
@muffinsnbuttons Normally when Sims 4 user data (saves, mods, etc.) disappears, the first place to look is a cloud storage service: OneDrive for Windows, iCloud for macOS. But the usual presentation is that everything disappears, or else all the newer content disappears and much older saves show up instead. Still, you can check OneDrive for any missing Sims 4 files; maybe you'll get lucky.
You can also search your hard drive for the files. Open a File Explorer window, click This PC in the left panel, and enter *.package (with the asterisk) in the search box. This should turn up any .package files on your hard drive. If you see the missing files, click on one of them, click "Open file location," and you'll land wherever the files went. From there you can move them back to their proper place.
This kind of thing shouldn't happen, but sometimes it does, and not always for reasons that can be explained. The only good way to prevent it is to keep a backup copy of the Sims 4 user folder, or at least the essential files within it, so you can restore them in the event they disappear.
