Mouse not working when trying to interact with objects

I've never faced this issue before and hope that someone else knows how to help.

When starting gameplay, the mouse will not work while interacting with objects. I can hover over Sims and see the highlight around them, but actions do not appear while clicking. I am able to click on the needs, aspirations, speed controls and anything on the UI. I disabled mods to make sure that wasn't the issue, but I've restarted my game three times with the same result. I have the current patch,1.58.62.1010, and University installed.

Has anyone faced this issue before and if so, how did you fix it?

    @mimzum 

    Do you have any Mods or CC? If so move your Mods folder to the Desktop and delete localthumbcache.package. Then test the game.

    If it works now check for updates to your Mods and CC. Add it back a little at a time while testing until you have found all that are broken.

    1. It can be related to having notifications enabled in Windows. Although you may not see the notification itself, your computer thinks you're clicking that and not the game. Disable notifications while you're playing and see whether it helps
    You can also try to change the resolution settings of the screen in the game options. Try the highest first. Try to play in windowed mode. (This can cause the Load Button to move from where Windows these notifications display.)

    2. However, the reason for this may also be a damaged file in the game folder. Most often it is a corrupt Option.ini file. but there may be more corrupted files. It's best to reset the game folder to get a fresh delivery of these files.
