My Game Won’t Fully Close

I’ve been having a strange issue lately. When I exit out of The Sims 4, the game will close, but it’s like the game doesn’t register that I’ve exited. I can’t open it again through the desktop unless I restart the laptop (I tried re-opening it through the EA app once & it did work.), but even then, the game still thinks that it’s running because it’ll automatically open once my laptop is turned on without me clicking anything. lol. If I close out of it again, it’ll open again, & then usually it stops & I can get it to fully close. This is happening more often than not, so I figured I would ask if anyone has ever experienced this before and/or know how to fix it?

  • @SimDork23  How are you exiting the game?  When you do so, please check the Task Manager, including the background processes list, for anything Sims 4- or EA-related, and let me know what you find.

Additionally, when you say you restart the laptop, do you mean clicking the Windows icon in the lower-left corner and selecting Restart, or closing and reopening the laptop lid, or something else?

@puzzlezaddictI go to the menu & click exit game. The games appears to close. The Sims 4 doesn’t appear in the task manager, but I’ll have to double check for the EA app.

When I restart, I click the icon in the lower left corner and then I click shut down. I then start the laptop up again by hitting the button.

@SimDork23  Please let me know whether the problem persists when you choose Restart rather than Shut Down.  It's very odd that Sims 4 would open after you shut down and restarted, I mean it really shouldn't happen at all even if the EA App is set to open with Windows.

@puzzlezaddict So I restarted the laptop as opposed to shutting down & turning it back on again, & it didn’t happen that time. It could have been just a coincidence, though, lol. I’ll have to test it again.

I should also clarify that the game only opens automatically if I open up the EA app—it doesn’t just start when the laptop boots up. When I turn my laptop on & open the EA app, The Sims 4 will open without me even clicking on it.

@SimDork23  That shouldn't happen either.  Just to be thorough, please check the Task Manager's Startup tab and see whether Sims 4 or the EA App is listed there.

In case you're wondering, a shutdown/reboot isn't actually as fresh a start as it might seem.  The computer saves some information to the disk and reloads it rather than reinitializing everything.  That's why you might see a difference when using Restart rather than Shut Down: Restart means everything is loaded from scratch.

@puzzlezaddictIt ironically didn’t do this at all earlier today, lol. I’m going to play some more tonight & over the next few days, so I guess I’ll see if the problem persists & check the task manager then.

That’s interesting about the shutdown/reboot not being a total refresh! I really don’t know as much about computers as I sometimes think I do, LOL.
