I can open the game, but it gets stuck on the 'The Sims 4' and the copyright underneath it, before the maxis animation thing.

I recently downloaded some (well, alot) cc which was inbetween working and not working.
Then it's probably something you downloaded and you need to find out what it is.

Having same issue. But my issue is NOT custom content. Game was working fine this morning. Closed game, turned off PC, came back later and restarted and Origin pushed an update and now game will not load after Sims 4 copyright splash screen. Anyone else seeing this? I tried loading the beta version of Origin, tried disabling and then re-enabling Origin in-game option on Origin account, tried loading without custom content, tried uninstalling and then installing a previous version of Origin. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance for any help!!!

You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files and make a backup.
OK, update: So when I rename my Sims 4 folder to backup and restart the game it works fine....and Origin throws up this "Downloads Complete" splash screen, although nothing downloaded. But, when I add my folders (mods, saves, etc) back to the new Sims 4, I get the same error. I'm going to start over and add each folder back one by one to see if I can isolate which folder it is that's causing the issue. I know it isn't mods because previously I tried starting the game without anything in the mods folder and got the same result. I'm just hoping it isn't the 'saves' folder. I'm going to be super angry if I've lost everything!!! I'll keep you posted with what I find!
Maybe it's just one file in the saves folder and the backups still work. Makes sure to try the saves one by one. To make a backup active, just remove the verX (x stands for a number between 0-4)
Update #2: I've copied each of my folders back one by one and the game starts fine. I'm now adding back in the files from the main Sims 4 folder. I started with the files that were found in my old Sims 4 backup folder but not in my new Sims 4 folder and one of the following is causing the crash: lastException, ConnectionStatus, EAWebKitCookies, lastCrash_63568862297. There are also a few lastExcetion and lastUIException files with 11 digit numbers after the name. None of these files are dated with the date I last accessed the game normally EXCEPT the lastException file. It is dated with the date and time of the last time I played the game and then normally exited. Also, the clientDB.package file in my old Sims 4 backup folder is only 1KB whereas the same file in the new Sims 4 folder is 843KB. Any idea what these files do?
