I'm not sure what I'm looking for to be honest. I did check and I'm using Windows Defender which came with Windows of course. When I checked the settings it said that The Sims was allowed through the firewall. When I play other games the internet connection doesn't drop, just when Origin/The Sims is launched.
@bugnbecca Windows Defender isn't usually a problem, but you can try changing these settings anyway:

And please double-check the Task Manager for any stray processes that might have come with an antivirus. Many computers have one pre-installed.
