Go to this folder: documents\electronicarts\thesims4\ and see if your mods are still there.
If not, your folder got probably moved by accident.
Search for TRAY to see if you have a second user folder somewhere and if you do, just copy the stuff back
Its not opening. I have a file from the date I need to open it from but it won't open!
What kind of file ? You don't need to open the file ?

Hi - I'm having the same issue, yet I've done everything that you and @pekesims have suggested, although with no successful results. All of my folders that have anything to do with the Sims 4 are from today, nothing from any of the earlier days that I've played. When I'm launching the game, it still has the hours recorded, but it seems as if those hours have never been applied to the in-game. The folders that you said may be missing are all in my Sims 4 documents - the only obvious issues are 1) the dates are consistently 8/10/2016, and 2) the families and any progress in the game are completely wiped. Any other ideas?

This might be a bit of a stupid question but my sims game reset itself and following your suggestion i found the tray file with lots of stuff in it. Where do I copy the content from the tray file and what do i do with the tray file after I've copied everything?
The tray file contains everything in your library. Do does still show up in the library ?
If we're talking about my pc library then yes, since I haven't done anything to it. I also noticed that you mentioned a second user folder, I only found one tray folder?

I have lots of stuff in the folder TRAY and in the RECYCLE BIN i have found my deleted MODS (that caused my game to return to its base game after deleting the MOD.) also in the RECYCLING BIN is lots of slot saves. What do I do to return my families and saved games? PLEASE HELP because EA won't ☹️ would really appreciate any help!

if it's in the trash you should be able to just click recover and they should be back.
didn't work for me I have mods it looks exactly the same as it did the last time and there is no TRAY file in the computer

That's the one you need to copy your stuff into.
you copy it to C/users/{your username}/documents/electronic arts
