not allowing me to change sims face

im in the main create a sim before you actually start the game and for some reason after i change my sims shirt it will not let me click or highlight anything but my sims arms and i do not know how to correct this. i have restarted the game and my entire computer but still no change, also the game is no longer running in full screen mode and is not filling my screen like it used to. any help would be greatly appreciated.
