I have my Origin install directory and Games folder frequently not installed in the default locations.
Some things are still stored on the Profile like David said. AppData/local/Origin for example.
----
When you move the Games folder you just need to remap it in origin's settings. If you want to move Origin, I uninstall it and reinstall it where I want it. Can't say I've ever tested just moving the folder, might work but not sure. Uninstalling Origin does not remove games so that's why I choose to uninstall it.

Since your talking about storing Mods and Screenshots elsewhere... those I believe go to "Documents" which would be on the C: Drive Profile likely.
You can get around this by using a symbolic link. MKLink
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS_symbolic_link
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/278262-mklink-create-use-links-windows.html
I used this a lot back in the days of $300 60gb SSDs and we were paranoid of wearing out the drives from writes.
@EA_David Thanks for answering;
Current file path is
C:\Users\myname\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4
My concerns within that folder are the mods and the screenshots folders in terms of future bloat (though of course I can trim screenshots)
@Wootcandy I looked at your links and I think that solution might be beyond my ability, unless there is some simple way to set it up which doesn't mean using DOS?

mklink /j D:\Sims4Stuff "C:\Users\myname\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4"No way I'm aware of in Windows to make a symbolic link without using cmd prompt.
I think you need to Cut all the data inside "The Sims 4" real folder first, paste it in your D:\Sims4Stuff... then delete the empty "The Sims 4" so it can replace it with a symbolic link. Pretty sure that's how it works, it's been a minute.
@Wootcandy
I tried the command prompt
Screen capture of CMD screen (link as can't see how to show pictures here)
First time got error message as shown, "Cannot create a file when that file already exists"
So I deleted the folder I made (Sims4Stuff) and tried again.
This time it appeared to work but I seem to have the situation in reverse to what I need..in that the folder on the D drive has locked symbols and a link symbol on the folder icon.
I'm not sure how to undo the link!
It seems like I would need to copy over the folder that i want from the C drive, then delete the folder in the C drive then reverse the syntax of the CMD prompt?

To remove it just delete the "link" like any other file or folder. Right Click Delete or Del key.
If for some reason that doesn't work. "RMdir" in cmd prompt can remove it. rmdir <link path>
If it happened in reverse, run the command again but this time swap the locations. Yep your last line seems correc to me.
Thank you for your help so far, hopefully this will be helpful for other programs as well!
I found a free program which automises the process which looks promising;
http://www.rekenwonder.com/linkmagic.htm
I'm hoping this will help me overcome my difficulty in spotting typos (wonky eyes, borderlines dyslexia :D)
Link now deleted.
The automatic program didn't work (aah well!)
So I went back to manually typing in CMD screen, which took me a few goes to get right.
I linked the screenshots folder as this is so simple to test, tested in game, and now screenshots are magically appearing in my D drive.
I shall move the mods folder after a sutaining cup of hot chocolate.
Thank you for your help!
Hi, I'm having a problem. I downloaded Origin and The Sims 4 onto my Hard Drive, but for some reason my Sims 4 save files keep download to my C: Drive. I've tried finding a way to redirect my save files to my hard drive, but everywhere I look it's either not what I'm looking for, or there is too complicated directions. So I was wondering if you could find/make a video explaining step by step directions and showing what to do so It's a little easier for me to figure out. I have alot of mods I would like to se in my sims game and very little space on my laptop to do so, can you please help? Thanks
- @WootCandy There's a Windows app called File Link Extension which adds file and folder context menu items to allow easy selection of files or folders and dropping different kinds of links (symbolic links, hard links, etc) to them elsewhere.

Hi @brainygrrrl, thanks for posting to help WootCandy. The thread itself is almost 2 years old so I'm not sure WootCandy is still having this issue but you're advice may help others going forward. 🙂 I'll close this thread here to limit further necroposting. Thanks.
