Re: Can you save Sims 4 game progress online?

@ForeverWildfire  While Origin supports cloud saving, the feature doesn't work for Sims 4 (or Sims 3).  Save files are always stored locally on your hard drive, and they need to be on your hard drive for the game to read them.

Having said that, you can manually transfer saves and other user data from one computer to another, whether through an external hard drive or USB, or through some cloud storage service (Google Drive, Dropbox, that kind of thing).  If you know what you're doing, you can even set one of these services to automatically sync your Sims 4 user data folder, although you'd need to be careful to make sure the service is copying the folder, not moving it, or else your content would be moved off your hard drive to a place where the game couldn't read it.  It's usually easier to just manually upload and download the files you want to transfer.

The file structure of the user data folder in Sims 4 is similar to that in Sims 3: the Sims 4 folder is in Documents\Electronic Arts, and it has a folder for saves, one for saved households and builds (Tray), one for mods and custom content (Mods), etc.  These folders or their contents are interchangeable between computers, even between Windows and macOS.  Best practice though is to transfer the contents of a particular folder, not the folder itself.

For Sims 3, there are (mostly mod-related) ways to cut down on the chances of a save getting corrupted to the point where you can't recover it.  You can also back up your saves periodically so that if something does happen, it's easy to revert to a recent copy rather than deleting everything.  If you'd like more help with the game, feel free to post in the Sims 3 section.
