Re: Computer Freezing after installing New Custom Content

Hi @maired75 Mods and cc do require a fair bit of maintenance.. and finding mods, for example at different locations on the net, can at times be difficult to find reputable links etc..

That is to say, modders need to keep the mods up to date for the game, and not all do, some have retired from modding etc.

EA doesn't officially support the use of them & using them is 'at your own risk' as they say. 🤞

What this means is, you've inadvertently downloaded a 'broken' mod, (perhaps even a TS3 mod) or it is now incompatible with the latest game version.

How to find the broken mod/culprit is in the spoiler below..

You can fast-track this procedure somewhat by deleting known broken mods/cc and get the updates if they are available or remove them from your game entirely.

STEPS TO TAKE TO FIND BROKEN MODS & CC

    • Remove the mods from your folder to the desktop

    • Delete your localthumbcache file found in your TS4 folder [Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4]

    • Repair game, by right clicking the cog near 'play'

    • Run the game, to see if it runs ok, now without any mods/cc

    • note: use a vanilla / new game for this process, don't run your old one

    • Now, if all went well, try transferring one cc folder at a time. This helps narrow down which is broken.

    • Trying the game each time, you do the process.. to see if it loads your game without issue

    • Before starting your game each time, also delete the localthumbcache file  from the sims 4 folder.

Spoiler

    • Apart from culling your folders one by one, or the  50/50 method, to narrow down the broken cc or mod, that is all you can do, (restarting and checking your game each time) you'll simply need to find the broken mod/cc it and remove it
    • Mods & cc are well known to cause various in-game issues please check for updates to them / where you found them; do this also > after any sims update or adding a game pack,
    • I also use Sims 4 Studio for batch fixes, as it solves a lot of problems in bulk (but not all.) It's also available for Mac. And is updated frequently, with pack relevant bug fixes.  There's also Luniver Sims Tray Importer, that can locate issues now as well.

Let me know if you find it difficult, and need more help.

Sasha

nb: Also,  since you are new to using cc/mods please check my post here on maintaining mods in the game, long term.
