Re: Consistent "One or More Files Requiring Update in Use" Update Error

@iButterfree  What antivirus program do you use?  It may be preventing Origin from properly installing Sims 4, either because Origin.exe is blocked or because TS4_x64.exe gets flagged.  The initial error you saw is often related to the game .exe being blocked or even deleted.

You can try setting exceptions for both .exe files in your antivirus, but that's often not enough—some programs have additional features that need to be disabled.  If you just want to cut through the various options, you can disable your antivirus entirely while downloading, then mess with its settings after the fact.

    Thank you for responding 😊

I mentioned at the bottom that I use Avast. I have the folders where everything should be going whitelisted, but I will definitely try installing with the anitvirus disabled! I didn't think about that. Thank you you the suggestion 👍

Oh definitely no worries! Thank you for the link.

Your suggestion had the game installing without issue 🎉 I was just testing it out to make sure there were no other problems, and it doesn't seem that there are at this point. Thanks again for the prompting to look deeper at Avast since I really had marked it off as a cause having whitelisted the folders. I'll keep in mind that it can be such a pain in the butt 😂

  • Thank you!!

I also received an error message stating, "There was a problem while updating your game. One or more files that requires an update may be in use."

I went to YouTube first and discovered there are several different downloading problems with origin. Came across a video that had me pull up run %programdata% and delete cache files, showing to delete all in Origin except for a certain one and I noped the hell out of there. I am not that computer savvy to where I am comfortable doing such things.

Then I googled the specific error message, I found your response and opened my antivirus, turned off the firewall and my Sims game immediately said finalizing.

You saved me from causing more problems from not knowing what the hell I'm doing! Thank you!
