Re: DirectX 11 Technical Issues and Feedback Thread

  • Platform: PC
  • Which language are you playing the game in? English
  • How often does the bug occur? Every time I play the game, usually about 2-3 minutes in. This only started after downloading and playing after purchasing and installing the Storybook Nursery and Artist Studio.
  • What is your current game version number? 1.109.207.1020.DX9 (I think, it was a bit hard to read)
  • What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Everything except for the following kits: Urban Homage, Poolside Splash, Grunge Revival, Simtimates Collection, First Fits, Moonlight Chic, Modern Menswear, Incheon Arrivals, Bust the Dust.
  • Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves?
  1. Start my game
  2. Play my game
  3. After a few minutes my game crashes
  4. Be sad because the game has crashed
  5. Repeat process with foolish hope it won’t happen again
  6. Be disappointed.
  • What happens when the bug occurs?
    • The game freezes mid mouse-movement for up to 30 seconds, and the game closes. There are no error codes or information.
  • What do you expect to see?
    • A functioning game.
  • Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods No
  • Please note, I have already tried: Restarting my device, shutting down and turning on my device, “Repairing” the game, clearing my cache. I also copied the following information from the Event Viewer on my computer (Surface Laptop 5 running Windows 11 Home, which I affectionately call Brunhilda Jr)

  • @honeysoychicken  I've split your post into its own thread since you're clearly running Sims 4 in DirectX 9 mode, not DX11.  (Your Event Viewer info confirms that: TS4_DX9_x64 is the DX9 executable.)  This particular type of crash should be fixed by switching to DX11 mode.  Open your EA App game library, click Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, and add -dx11 in the command line box.

Since your dxdiag itself crashed while running, which can be a fluke or a sign of a system issue, I'd suggest running a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files as well.  Here's how:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

If you get another crash, please post the same Event Viewer info.
