Re: Gallery name changed

Hi,

glad you've been able to find your stuff at least.

YOB74TOX is your EA-ID (=OriginID) and that has never been considered private info. It's how you are shown to the outside world. it's like the user name you use on the EA-Forums, just for Origin.

If you want a different one, you might wanna change it as suggested before (maybe you wanted to change it to something that was already taken ?)

Bit unsure what to tell you cause my creations and everyone's I've looked at have always had the Origin-ID and not the one used at the forum (in my case it's the same but I've looked at users where they weren't)

Your Origin-ID shouldn't contain sensible information as your password and a security code that you have to enter to make sure it's you is usually only a temp thing that changes the next time you need one.

Don't think I can help you further with this but if you want, I can forward to a CM to look at.

    Hi @FrogPrince75,

It seems you already figured out what was happening here, but just in case I'm going to try explain.

There are 3 different ways of searching in The Gallery:

    • By item name - you mention you used: 'xxx' is a FrogPrince creation. Searching for 'FrogPrince' would give you the items as a result as FrogPrince is in the name.
    • By EA Origin ID - searching for FrogPrince doesn't give any results as your EA ID is YOB73TOX.
    • By hashtag - as you also mention you used FrogPrince as hashtag on your creations, searching by hashtag will also give you your creations as a result.

The way item names show in the Gallery has changed, that's why you might have noticed the difference now.

Forums.thesims.com forum or The Sims 3 username and your EA Origin ID are not related - that's why you have FrogPrince as forum name but not as your EA Origin ID.

You can change your EA Origin ID from here, but keep in mind already uploaded creations will keep showing your current EA Origin ID (YOB73TOX): https://myaccount.ea.com/cp-ui/aboutme/index.

I would highly recommend a change if you have used it as a password somewhere.

Hope this helps clarify, but don't hesitate share your questions if you have any!

    Cheers,

    -Mai

  • In all the years I have played the Sims, the Origin ID. has never been used to identify creations - that is until now.  Frog Prince identifies persona.  Y0B73TOX shouts password which I have thought it always was and necessary to access Origin.  I am very unhappy with the change specially when it was done without notice. I don't know why there was a need for a change other than somebody had a bright idea and  never mind the confusion that resulted over the change. People were left on their own to figure out how to work the new system which I cannot see in any way as being an improvement. I notice it cannot be changed. For me another Origin ID will only add to the confusion.  My only other option might be to remove all my creations from the gallery. I am extremely disappointed.

Sorry @EA_Mai It is not possible to change it there. I believe that it was some time ago but then the EDIT option by Origin ID for some reason was removed. Maybe it was an error?

Like @EA_Mai wrote it is not used to identify creations. It is however now displayed on the page. You should never use a password for anything else than as a password.

    @jpkarlsen

yes it's possible (at least for me). Does that not work for you ?

Click on EDIT on the basic information

Enter the new name in the field and hit enter. It also states that the ID is a public identity and that's not something that has changed.

    @crinrict

That is the EA ID. If you look a bit further down where it says Origin ID you will see that there are no edit option there.

The same goes for Game specific ID. You already posted elsewhere that this can not be changed.

That's what we're talking about though. We're not talking about changing the game specific IDs, it's about the EA-ID, the one that shows in the gallery.

Does the Origin ID stay different when you change the EA-ID ? (should be the same thing), Don't really wanna try.

Yes, it does change both. I could have sworn that this was not the case earlier.

Not the best wording when linking the page in my last post, @jpkarlsen, fixed that now 🙂

To clarify: by editing the ID under Basic Information, the EA ID shown on the Gallery for new uploads, Origin and here on the forums will change to the new ID of your choice, as all of them use the same ID.

@FrogPrince75 Unfortunately, I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean - EA ID has always shown as the item creator on the Gallery (By: EA ID). Text was just in a different order before:

So 'Y0B73TOX' should have always shown there, just with a different design.

    Cheers,

    -Mai

  • Let me get this straight. I have what you call an EA ID which is Frog Prince and appears on the Sims Forum and until recently on my creations in the Gallery.  I have an Origin ID Y0B73TOX which I have always thought was a security thing because of being able to buy things on Origin.  That ID has never appeared ever on any of my creations regardless of what you say.  Can you explain to me why I appear as Y0B73TOX on Origin and the Gallery and FrogPrince on the Sims Forums if we are only to have one ID? I simply do not want to be known as YOB73TOX on the Gallery or on the forums.  What is so difficult to understand about that.  If I have to change it again as being suggested,  then I will have a 3rd ID and all I have contributed on the forums and the gallery will be lost and I will appear as a novice as I do on this forum.

    Hi @FrogPrince75

changing your ID on Origin will not change your forum ID. Those are two different things.

The Forum ID (Frog Prince) is what you will always see on the forums and in the Sims 3 Exchange (if you ever used Sims 3). That cannot be changed and appears as Sims identity on that page @EA_Mai linked before.

The EA-ID (= OriginID) is what's used here at AHQ and in the Sims 4 Gallery. It's the YOB... ID you have. If you change that, it will have no influence on the official Sims forum. Your old creations will still show as YOB .. but the new ones should then show under whatever you choose (FrogPrince might be taken as EA-ID). It's still the same account though, just a name change.

I found an old picture of mine where the old gallery shows. Do you remember what name showed in the upper right ? Where it says crinrict for me ? That's the OriginID (as you can see, I searched for it) and that's the same as the EA-ID you have now. It just changed to EA-ID instead of Origin ID.

    Hi @FrogPrince75,

'Can you explain to me why I appear as Y0B73TOX on Origin and the Gallery and FrogPrince on the Sims Forums if we are only to have one ID?'

I can definitely try 🙂 You only have one EA/Origin ID, but the EA/Origin ID and your username in The Sims forums are different things and changing one won't change the other.

EA/Origin ID is your EA account username, and it's used in:
    - Origin
    - The Gallery and most EA Games
    - Answers HQ and some other EA forums

Your The Sims forums username is used only on The Sims forums - changing your EA/Origin ID won't change your username on The Sims forums.

My recommendation would be trying to change your EA/Origin ID to 'FrogPrince' if it's not already taken. That way you would show as FrogPrince in all these services.

    Hope that helps clarifying,
    -Mai
  • If what you said here is true and Y0B73TOX is my EA ID, why have my creations always shown the Forum ID FrogPrince.  It was only until the recent change that my  ID  was changed from FrogPrince  to Y0B73TOX  To me this means that anyone knowing another persons EA ID can access their Origin account and this is not acceptable.  Time and again I have been assured that Origin information is private and safe.  It is not . It is on the gallery for all the world to see and changing my name won't change that.

They still would need your password to access your account. If you're ID has anything to do with your password, you should change that asap. I

You can also activate two factor authentication for extra security.
  • I am looking at all the information I have concerning my Sims account.  I have an e-mail address and a password to access the game and The Sims Forum I have a Persona, FrogPrince, which has always been used until now. I have a Master ID: Y0B73T0X. I have a secret question and an EA Security Code which I have no idea on how to use. I don't seem to have a password.  I tried to change the YOB73T0X a longtime ago and was not allowed to  change it.  My fear is that if I try to change it now, all my contributions in the gallery will be gone or credited to someone else and I will be no further ahead. than when this conversation was started. It seems to me that I should leave everything as it is even if I don't like it.  I am 75 years old. I can't jumps through hoops to find a way of fixing things when they go wrong and EA does not make it  easy.

The password you use to login, is your password.

The security code is a one time thing which is sent to you when you login on a new device. It expiries after a while and you get a new one if you try to login on a new device.

Never give anyone your password or your security code. The security question might be asked by support if you contact them. Never give it to anyone else (not what the question is nor the answer).

When you change your name, the creations you have uploaded now, should still be created to your old name (YOB..) but you could also just download them, remove them from the gallery and then re-upload once you changed your name. You will loose all current downloads and like though. They won't be given to just someone else.

Maybe it is best to leave as is. You are not at any security risk with just the Origin-ID/EA-ID showing in the gallery.
