Re: Game Crashes Computer?

@ChrinnieSims

I can only reaped myself here. The game itself can't shut down your Computer like you described it.

A system level driver or a hardware problem are the only two things that could force such thing.

You should see a BSOD if it would be a driver problem, so a hardware problem is still the most likely cause.

I am very careful when it comes to making remote diagnoses, that is why I have emphasized that it would be best to test the individual competent ones before buying new ones.

What you could do is to disconnect everything from your machine that is not absolutely necessary.

(Including internal and external hard drives, PCIe cards and so on.)

After the PSU the Motherboard is the second most critical thing in relation to the power supply.
Testing it would be the best course of action imho.

Either professionally at a PC shop, or extend it, clean it thoroughly and bring it to a different place (friend or relative) and test with different components.

Meaning different RAM, hard drives, in short all other hardware components internal and external should be different, including cables.

Well, none of that is possible under the circumstances in which we find ourselves.  However, as far as just replacing parts, they were going to replaced anyway.  I've wanted to upgrade them for a while now.  But, I brought it forward in the hopes this would fix the problem.  Especially since there was evidence and hints that it could very well be the PSU at the outset.  So, I don't know.  You say it's not possible it's the game, but unless I can recreate this problem with any other program, I have no evidence to suggest it isn't the game.

But I have one more idea and maybe you can agree or disagree, but perhaps it is the motherboard afterall.  Yet another component that was going to be upgraded anyway.  I was just waiting until later this year to do all of this.  Ah well, could be worse.  At least I can play the game, for the most part.

Just a quick question.  If it isn't the game, but a driver (no BSOD, but humor me).  I can't figure it out and I don't know how to uninstall and reinstall the driver for the GPU.  What about just factor data resetting the entire computer?  Basically put it back to what it was the day it was bought in terms of software versions, etc... and then update them all to current and see?  At least that's free.

For the driver, here is a guide for a complete clean installation

For the entire computer a clean installation of Windows would be the best thing.

And as said, reduce the system to minimum. Disconnect anything internal and external that is not absolutely necessary.

Don't rule out anything, that includes the wall socket, Socket strips, cables and so on.

I wanted to again thank you for everything you helped me with.  Yesterday I installed a new motherboard and the game has not crashed since.  Since it tended to happen mostly in CAS and loading screens, I spend around an hour in CAS and clicking various things and creating various sims.  It appears that the voltage issue may well have been the motherboard voltage regulator or something else within the motherboard.

Now we're cooking with a new mobo, clean windows install, and replaced the 2TB HHD with a 4TB SSD.  And again, thank you for your help.  I just wanted to let you know that the problem has finally been solved.

I am very glad to hear this! 🙂

Congratulation on the practical new machine, it should be good for at least several years without giving you such headache again. 👍

  • @puzzlezaddict,  @holger1405  thanks again.

And several years?  Now that I have this basic knowledge of how to build a computer?  Oh my... I might have to build a computer even if I sell it later on just because I wanna! LOL
