Re: I can't update Sims 4 - PLEASE HELP!!!

Same problem here. ☹️ I only get the second error, though. I chatted with EA costumer support for 3 hours today and talked to 3 different people but nothing seems to work.

They suggested the following things (which didn't work for me):

- Run Origin AND Sims 4 as admin

- Temporarily disable your firewall/antivirus

- Run in compatibility mode XP service pack 3

- Repair the game

- Change UAC settings to never notify

- Change Internet Explorer settings to standard (even if you don't use it, apparently Origin connects through IE, maybe that is why it fails...)

- Clear caches

The last thing they suggested was to boot my PC in safe mode with network and try it that way. I decided that this was getting a bit too complicated for me.

After this I reinstalled Origin, and even that didn't work. I wouldn't even mind if I lost all my saves, but I can't do anything now.

If anyone has a solution, or if anyone is brave enough to try the safe mode and it works, please let me know. Origin is the bad guy here, because it doesn't update another game I own either. So it's not Sims!

Tried all of them except the Origin clean cache files thingy. I don't know which files inside the folder to delete. But this is so annoying! ☹️((((((( PLEASE FIX THIS!!!!

These are the instructions I got:

Origin folder - Found in C:\ProgramData\
Origin folder - Found in C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\
Origin folder - Found in C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\

So the entire 3 folders. It didn't do anything in my case though...

everything in all 3 folders?! I took away everything from the 1st one but then when I opened Origin there was some error. It opened but something popped us saying "filename.exe is missing" or something like that.

No, not everything in, just all three folders. I don't know, that is what the costumer support person said to me. I was a bit weary at first as well. My Origin still works (apart from the updating games bit...).

I can't play the game until I update it....

there better be a solution. I payed good money for this game. Don't want it to be ruined by Origin.

Me too, I don't understand. What OS are you using? Windows 8.1 like me?

One of them said Windows 8.1 may be too new for the update... Which sounded kind of ridiculous since Sims 4 is a brand new game and the update obviously even newer. That's why they had me try it in XP service pack 3 mode. I'm so confused about this. It just seems to be a bug in Origin.

Hopefully they will come with a solution soon... I clicked on the me too button (sorry, first time here) and I'll keep following this thread.

Ok sweet. By the way, I have now cleared the Origin Cache Files.  I also disabled my firewall and antivirus AND ran Origin in admin mode at the same time, and also repaired Sims 4. Clicked Update and it said "Folder in Use" and then this popped up too http://prntscr.com/53qiez

    Soooo.... mad and confused....

    hoping for a solution soon. I really want to continue playing the Sims ;_;

Me too, it's a lot of money. Worth it if it works, it's an amazing game, but this is just awful.

Agree. Also heard that the game lags much more after the update.

Lets hope that's not the case for me. I have to run Sims 4 on AT LEAST Medium graphics with laptop mode on. Anything higher than that goes slow.

I found a solution that worked for me!

What I did was I did a clean boot of my PC: http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/ (follow steps carefully)

After I restarted my PC. I went to task manager and ended Origin. I then ran Origin as an admin and it immediately started updating my game. And it actually finished without a problem. No errors or anything.
