Do you have any script or tuning mods installed? If you have mods installed, please try removing them and sending your sim to work after re-launching the game. If the problem continues, try repairing your game by right clicking on the game icon in origin and selecting 'repair.' Please do not save your game while testing your mods for compatibility.

I do have mods installed, but it started happening before mods were installed. It happens around every 2-3 days. I restored the game to default settings without uninstalling it using this: http://sims4.crinrict.com/en/2014/09/resetting-the-game-to-factory-settings-without-reinstalling/
It seems to be working, but I'll have to play it more and find out.

do you give your Sims lunch packs ? If so, there's currently a bug with them that makes them leave work instead of eating them - I do! Thank you!
