Hi Crin ... I thought I'd reply to your message as the frustration with trying to get this problem fixed is growing. Contacting a game advisor has not worked - due to high demand we keep getting re-directed back to these forums. I know you don't work for EA, but we appreciate your wanting to help.

We are having the same issue with our installation ... "Unable to run The Sims 4 becuase Origin is not running" ... but it IS.
We were able to play the game through Origin BEFORE the free Christmas pack upgrade was installed. Our game icon is showing 6hrs played. I've deleted and re-installed both Origin and The Sims 4. I've even tried repairing The Sims 4.
We've cleared the Origin cache by deleting all of the Origin folders ... that "un-greyed" our orange Play button, but the game still refuses to run as it reports the error that Origin is not running.
Like many others, we've paid good money for a game we now can't use. I'm beginning to think EA need to provide a fix or a refund.
