Re: Sims 4 - Game stuck forever loading (no mods)

@Mousielg  Thanks for the dxdiag.  Have you tried removing the entire Sims 4 folder from Documents > Electronic Arts yet?  If not, please do so now.  Let me know if it copies instead of moving, or you get an error when trying to move it; otherwise, try again to play.  You don't need to wait more than about 5 minutes—if it hasn't loaded by then, with no mods or custom content present, it's not going to, given the speed of your hardware.

Your dxdiag crashed while running and is missing some information as a result.  Some of the errors it contains are Windows-related as well.  So it's a good idea to run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

  • Hit Windows key-X
  • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
  • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
  • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
  • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
  • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
  • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
  • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

Finally, please update the Nvidia graphics driver.  You can get the newest driver here:

https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/216928/en-us/

Run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Chose the Custom (not Express) install option, and check the box to perform a clean install.  Restart your computer again after installing and before trying to play.  Continue to use the clean Sims 4 folder rather than your old one, at least for now.

Hi! I did all of the above and it worked for a new game, but I'm still having issues when using my old save files.

@Mousielg  Can you load other households in your old saves?  Can you load your main households if you first move them to new lots?  You don't need to save your progress; this is just for testing.

I was able to load in using an old save file. Does that mean my more recent saves are corrupted? If so, what can I do to restore those saves?

@Mousielg  Again, please test a current save file by loading a different household within that save.  If that works, move your main household in that same current save to a different lot and let me know what happens.  This is a useful test but is also a potential way to fix the problem: you're narrowing down the source no matter what the results.

The loading screen I am stuck on is the one directly after the main menu, as such I am unable to load into any other households

@Mousielg  At the Main Menu, you should be able to click Load Game instead of Resume, which should take you to Manage Worlds, at which point you could choose another household to load.  Let me know if that doesn't work either.
