Re: Unable to play newly bought Sims 4 DLC

Hello.  I recently purchased 2 new packs on Steam but they won't show up in the game or in the EA App/Origin.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game entirely, no luck.  I tried clearing the cache and repairing the game in Origin, no luck.  I can see that the files for the two packs (Vampires and Realm of Magic) are in the game's file folders, but they won't show up.  I also haven't had much luck from either Steam support or EA support, so I'm really hoping the community can help me here!

@kanamihope The packs have to be installed depends on how the base game is installed. Is the gase game a Steam install or a Origin/EA app install?

@kanamihope   You have to launch the Steam base game and install the packs to the Steam base game.  In Steam go to the My Game Library tab. Right-click on The Sims 4 base game image and click Show Game Details. Click the Expansion Packs, Game Packs, or Stuff Packs tab depending on what pack you purchased. I think this is the way for the Steam version as I have never used the Steam version. I think Steam provides a code you can use to install (redeem code) the packs in the EA app. This should work if you linked your Steam account with youe EA account.

I have already installed them via Steam, which is why there are files in the games folders for them.  They aren't showing up in the game, though.  Steam doesn't give product codes--it should be automatically linked to my EA account.  All my other packs/stuff show up ☹️

@kanamihope  Please delete the GP04 and GP08 folders shown in your screenshot and repair the game in Steam: open your library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Properties > Local files > Verify integrity of the game files.  Then restart your computer and reinstall the packs, and see whether they show up.  If not, please restart your computer again and look a second time—Sims 4 sometimes fails to load new packs the first time the game is launched.

@kanamihope  Did you confirm that Steam did in fact install the packs in the correct location, as in, the folders you deleted have now been recreated?  Are you trying to launch Sims 4 while Steam is in offline mode, or your computer is offline?

Yes, the files did get recreated, and I watched it reinstall them once I opened Steam again.  It's definitely not in offline mode nor is my computer.

The game does seem to launch in offline as default--I haven't figured out how to change that, and can only get it to go online when I open the gallery.  Would this have any affect on anything?

@kanamihope  The Gallery not connecting automatically is by design as of last October.  The idea was to reduce the load on EA servers by only establishing the connection when someone wanted to use the Gallery, which was especially critical as the base game went free to play.

Is there any other reason you think the game might be offline?  If Steam or the EA App is in offline mode every time you play, your new packs might not ever be validated (or whatever goes on in the background) and therefore not load.  The game launchers should show as offline though.

Does this problem happen if you try to play using Origin, as opposed to the EA App?  Steam will likely call the EA App, but if you already have Origin open, Steam should use that instead.  I'm not clear on whether you tried this already or only repaired the game within Origin.

Hello @puzzlezaddict been reading this post like crazy, I have tried everting that you have mention in this tread.

in steam bought Cottage Living expansion, now wanna play it but it isnt showing up in game(shows as isn't owned, but have it in steam).

tried, both platform support and their where no help.

tried deleting in game folder EP11 and then Verify integrity of the game files > restaring ,few time.( but didnt work)

seem that they are installed in correct place.

also tried connecting to online mode

I don't have EA app only Orgin, so it only connect to that and then runs game in offline.

@realbella01  If you run Steam and Origin as an admin (right-click on each shortcut and select "Run as administrator"), then keep Origin in online mode, does the pack show up?

I'm not sure what's going on with these Steam-based DLC issues, but there's a pattern and I'll flag it for someone to look at.  It might take some time to get a response though.  Please let me know about the above in the interim.

puzzlezaddict It sadly isn't showing up, even if I trying go thought all steps again with "Run as administrator" and Orgin being online.

I bought The Sims 4 last year in February along with a bunch of dlc through Steam and they all worked just fine, now, having bought more dlc through Steam just yesterday, the new dlc won't show up in game even though Steam says that the dlc did in fact get downloaded.

I am almost at my wits end with this issue. I have tried deleting the newly bought dlc and redownloading, removing my Mods folder, checking game files integrity, and connecting to the gallery in game, nothing has worked.

@NizzyTien  I've merged your post with another thread about the same issue.  You can try the suggestions earlier in the thread, but I think this might be an account issue, in which case there might be nothing you can do to fix it on your end.  I've flagged the problem to someone from EA.

*sigh* I was afraid of that...here's hoping something can be done. I spent $105 on the new dlc...

    Hey all,

We are currently reviewing this issue internally as well as with our Steam partners. I'll provide any updates in this thread.

@kanamihope  Thanks for letting me know.  As you can see from the post immediately above yours, EA is now looking into the issue.  If it's on the EA side, which seems likely given that all the usual troubleshooting steps haven't helped, you'll just need to wait for a fix, unfortunately.
