I have had this problem as well after the last update.
Red crosses over thumbnails, profile pictures, in CAS, everywhere.
What helped me was:
CLEARING THE SIMS 4 CACHE
"The Sims 4's game cache is located at Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/ on both PC and Mac.
1. Delete the localthumbscache.package file in this directory. This helps to "fix" some gameplay bugs."

@HoneysSims4 It worked! I've been trying to fix it for two days. Repairing the game fixed some of it, but not all. THANKS!
