Relationships made at a venue are completely lost after sleeping

Twice I have had my Sim make a number of relationships at the gym venue, come home and go to sleep, and upon waking up, have no memory of knowing any of the individuals. I tried saving the game immediately after returning home and even shooting a text to the sims, hoping the additional contact would help to keep the relationship present, but that did not help the problem whatsoever.

I'd really rather the sim know someone other than his brother/roommate...for his sake and sanity.
