"Requires Get To Work" to access all saves

Playing via EA Launcher, Windows 11 on PC. I have all major content except Batuu, don't have some kits.

Upon launching today, I got a notice that a pack was downloading. I have no new content (but have pre-purchased the horse pack) so I assumed it may have been an update. I had the option to play during download but there was an issue. I have about 60 saves; all but the two oldest (from April 2021 and October 2019) have listed underneath "requires Get to Work."

The game shows that I own and have installed G2W ("you already own this pack"). I've had it since release. The game says that if I attempt to load any of these saves, they will be corrupted, unplayable, and unrecoverable. I have restarted the launcher three times (by exiting via the menu) and the error persists.

Edit: I tried making a new save and all I have is Base Game content, although it's acknowledged that I own all the other content I've purchased and played with within the last 24 hours.

  • @Edenza  Okay, one major problem is that you've installed Sims 4 into your Documents folder.  The user folder goes in Documents > Electronic Arts, and the game's program files can be almost anywhere else, but not there—the two folders should never be combined.  The best way forward from here is to uninstall and reinstall everything, but OneDrive's presence is going to make that slightly more complicated.

First, please create a new folder inside your Downloads folder.  Call it Backup or whatever you want, but don't put "Sims 4" in the name.  Go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, right-click the saves folder and select Copy, then open the Backup folder and select Paste.  Repeat for the Tray folder, and for Mods, Screenshots, and Recorded Videos as well if there's anything inside you want to save.  The rest of the files can be discarded; the game will recreate them as necessary.

Next, right-click the OneDrive (cloud) icon in the lower-right corner of the screen and pause syncing.

For the uninstall process itself, please use Revo Uninstaller:

    • Download Revo (the free version is fine) from here.
    • Launch Revo, select Sims 4 from the list, and click Uninstall.
    • Once the game is uninstalled, select "Moderate" under "scanning modes," and click Scan.
    • Review the list, in case there's something you want to save; otherwise, click Select All, and then Delete.
    • Close Revo, and restart your computer.

Uninstall the EA App with Revo as well.  I don't have instructions for that at the moment, but the process should be straightforward.  Restart again when you're done.

With OneDrive syncing still paused, sign into onedrive.com, and delete any folders called "The Sims 4."  This will prevent OneDrive from downloading everything you removed once it resumes syncing your data.

Install the EA App, and when you go to install Sims 4, choose a location that is NOT inside Documents or Downloads.  The default location, C:\Program Files\EA Games, is fine.  Let the game install, then launch it once and see whether your packs are loading.  The easiest way is to go into CAS or Build/Buy and try to filter by pack.  For any pack not installed, you'll either get no results or the game will tell you that you don't own it, even though you do.  (This message is a bit misleading.)  So you can find out quickly whether your packs are installed again.

If you're missing any packs, please run the same searches for them as you've done just now, and stop here.  If you don't want OneDrive syncing your files, please also stop here and let me know; it's easier to deal with OneDrive before you've restored your old saves and other data.

If all your packs are present and you want OneDrive to keep syncing your files, copy (copy and paste, don't drag and drop) the files you stashed in the Backup folder to the new Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts.  It's best to copy the files themselves into the new folders rather than transferring the old folders.  Open the game again and see whether your saves load properly.  If not, stop here and let me know.

If your saves are all intact, you can resume OneDrive syncing, and everything should work properly.  But keep the backups you created before just in case you need them later.  If you have an external drive or USB stick, I'd suggest copying them there, but you can also zip the Backup folder and upload it to another filesharing site like Google Drive for safekeeping.

  • @Edenza  Please run searches for two or three of your missing packs.  Open a File Explorer window, click This PC in the left panel, and enter the folder name for one of the missing packs in the search field in the upper-right corner.  This is the full list of packs:

    https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/extras-2/available-packs-dlc/

For example, if you're looking for Seasons, you'd search for EP05 .  Wait for the search to finish, then make sure the full file path is showing under each result.  If it's not, expand the window sideways as necessary.  Take a screenshot using Windows key-shift-S and attach it to a reply here.  Then repeat for one or two more packs.

As I searched "EP0..." I had four come up together. I can do individual screenshots as well but I thought this might be enough to start. Thanks in advance.

    Screenshot of first search result:

  • Here are individual search results for EP02, EP05, EP07

    Thanks. I'll follow those suggestions.

I've had it where it is since first installation on release so IDK why this suddenly became an issue yesterday morning though.

ETA: I've been working on it and it's auto-installing in Program Files / EA Games / The Sims.

I've followed all the steps and, thanks to your detailed reply, it went smoothly. If it doesn't work, I'll drop back in but it looks like it should. Thanks again.

Hello. I know this thread is from two years ago, but I opened my Sims 4 today and had some updates to install and when I did that I was having this same problem where it was giving the “requires get to work” error on a couple of my saves. I’ve had Sims 4 for a few years and this is the first I’ve seen this.

So, I followed your steps to the letter to fix where I had it saved and I got everything reinstalled and I didn’t lose any packs or saves, but it didn’t fix the problem…. I don’t know if you’ll see this or not but I really hope you do because I can’t play the one save I’m wanting to play right now for fear it will get corrupted. Thanks in advance.

  • kjohnson62  Is Get to Work loading for you in a new save?  If not, did you ever have an EA Play subscription?  GtW is included with EA Play, and it would be removed if your subscription lapsed.  That could happen even if you also bought the pack separately.

Please let me know whether any other packs are missing as well.  You can test in a new save.
