Save Files opening in Notepad
I was having an issue in one of my saves where the only romantic action for my sim to do was serenade so I was testing my mods and CC to see if they were at fault. Long story short, it ended up being my save file. I went in and I backed up my saves and while I was fiddling with my files I accidentally opened it with notepad. All of my files with the .save extension are trying to open with notepad. All of my other saves are intact in game, but my bugged one is not showing up. I would usually just ignore it, but I have put hundreds of hours into my sim and she has maxed out almost every skill and aspiration without cheats, and I don't want to lose it. I have checked just about everywhere online for a solution, but because the saves open in an "Unknown Application", I can't change what they open in. I've also tried resetting default file associations in settings and Registry Editor. I attempted to recover an older save version using this method (https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/the-sims/the-sims-4/how-to-restore-a-previous-saved-game-in-the-sims-4/), but they still never popped up in game. pls send help i am desperate i love my sims
In addition to what @roberta591 wrote.you may have saved the savegame you opened in Notepad. That will have given it a .txt ending and when choosing Load Game you would not see it because it now has the wrong ending. To check for this you need to make Windows show known file extensions. To do this in File Explorer select View and place a check by File name Extensions. Notice that older versions of windows may say Hide known file name extensions in which case you remove the check there.
After doing this do you then see a file called Slot_xxxxxxxx.txt or Slot_xxxxxxxx.save.txt If so rename it to Slot_xxxxxxxx.save The savegame will then appear in when you select Open game in the Sims 4. Notice that you chose to associate '.save files with Notepad will have no influence on how they work in the game.
