sims 4 cache file missing

Game just updated and the cache file is gone there is a (cachestr) file.my game is playable but freezing a lot. Did the files merge in the update or how do I fix and get the file back? I have a picture of it missing, and a picture of what is in the file cachestr. thanks

@Zetus_Lapetus_B  Some online guides haven't been updated in a while, and Sims 4 no longer creates certain files.  If you don't see the file described, just skip that step.

If that doesn't help, try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If you still get a black screen, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

  • @AuntMorticha24 That looks normal. There is no cache file per se. The cache file you want to delete after updates or installing new stuff, is the localthumbcache.package
  • I'm trying to find the solution for why my startup is black. I'm going through troubleshooting and the internet tells me to delete everything in the Cache folder except file.cache. I don't have a cache folder either.

I just played it yesterday. All was fine

@BER9-R5F9-WL73-E  You can start adding back your custom content now, but keep in mind that you may have multiple broken files that prevent the game from loading or cause other problems.  So test in small batches, or use the 50/50 method if you have a lot of content to sort through:

The other user had mentioned in another thread that they had a Mac.  So I asked them to post in the Mac tech forum if they needed more help rather than this (the PC tech) forum.
