Sims 4 crashes during game play

My Sims 4 seems to crash during game play and it has been going on for about just over a month and a half.  It may have very well started after the last update but I can't seem to remember.  I googled and found some thing that I could do and have done a few of them to no avail.

I defragged amd even took out my sims 4 folder to start fresh with it only to crash.  I have a copy of my dxdiag so I'm hoping you can tell me if i need to add another video card or something to my gaming computer.

I just need help!!

  • Hi  @draven427

while your computer is not the newest, it should be able to handle the game without crashing

Your graphics are a bit outdated though so try if updating them from the AMD site helps; https://support.amd.com/en-us/download

    • Other than that: Are you you using and mods/cc in your game ? Those are often the reason for crashing.
    • Does it crash at any particular moment or is it random ?

So I updated my graphics from the link and I noticed an improvement.  This is also after I took out the Sims 4 folder, put it on my desktop and then

created a new Sims 4 folder so that I would essentially be starting out brand new.

It was doing great for the first few hours then bam, my computer just shut down.  I've since tried playing and sometimes i can play a couple of hours

or play 15-20 mins and it just shuts the computer completely off.  I'm at a loss as to why this is even happening.

I thought about taking the Sims 4 game completely off of Origin and just reload it but I'm not sure it would help or be a wise thing to do.

So to answer your question there really isn't any particular moment when the game crashes.  It has happened in CAS, when traveling from one

destination to another, while just playing the game while the Sim is home and so forth.  Can you think of anything else that might be causing this to

    happen?

    Perplexed,

  • Thank you for sharing your computer information and letting us know what you've tried.

Here are a couple more tips to try, if you haven't already.

    1. Turn off Origin In-Game:
Open Origin, Select Origin > Application Settings > Origin In Game tab and click the on/off switch to disable Origin In Game. - This deactivates Origin In-Game, as it has been known to cause problems with games.

2.Start the game in Windowed mode:
In Origin > Games Library, right-click on Sims 4 and select Game Properties - In the Command Line Arguments, add the following text: -w and click Okay.

    3. Move your mods folder to the desktop and delete the localthumbcache.package from the Sims 4 folder. This helps clear up some game glitches and will help to make sure there isn't any issues with any mods or cc. Like mods/cc that are outdated or no longer in game.

How to Move the Mods Folder to Desktop:
[Go to C:\Users\Username\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 and click on the Mods folder, select Cut and paste it to the desktop for testing purposes.]

If the game runs well without the mods folder. This most likely means that it is outdated mod or cc. This can happen as we get updates for the game, some mods and custom content become outdated. You'll need to to go through your mods folder to find what needs to be replaced or deleted.

    4. Repair Game:
In Origin > Games Library, right-click on Sims 4 and select Repair. - Do note this repairs the game's install files for the actual game. It does not make any changes to the saved game files. Meaning that your saved games are safe, they won't be deleted. If you'd like you can copy the Sims 4 folder to a USB key.
