I have also been having this problem.
I have a brand new high-end PC and have just started playing Sims 4 again. I don't have any custom content yet, and I have noticed that after a while, the game just closes with no errors. There seems to be no pattern to it. It would be helpful if it gave an error before closing so I would know at least where to look to solve it.
I have lost quite a few hours play time from this happening. Would be helpful if there was an auto-save facility so that I didn't have to remember to save every few sim days manually.
Is there an error log that would be produced even though it gives me no error message?
EDIT: I have attached a dxdiag file if that helps at all.

@hotluck644 Edit: I'm looking at the dxdiag now; I'll get back to you on that in a couple minutes, and you can ignore the other stuff for now.
Certain errors would show up in a dxdiag, and the overall info in one can be useful for a variety of reasons. It's also helpful to attach one to a post when you want help troubleshooting, so people can see your hardware, drivers, etc.

If you want to look for a specific error from a specific time, the Reliability Monitor should list any crash or warning. Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day. Today is all the way on the right.
For any error you see, you can click "View technical details" to get more information. One important detail though is that the timestamp on the initial chart reflects when the issue was logged, not necessarily when it happened; you'd need to look in the technical details to make sure you have the correct time. The Reliability Monitor also only updates every hour or two, so you may not immediately see the error that caused a crash. But you can always check back a bit later.
If you want to see everything, right now, you can check the Event Viewer (Windows key-R, "eventvwr") for errors. The informational entries can be ignored, and there are quite a lot of them, so be ready to scroll. For the actual errors, you can double-click on one to get more info.

@hotluck644 There are two Avast errors in your dxdiag which may or may not be related to the Sims 4 crashes. If you want to find out, the quickest way is to play while Avast is disabled. As long as you don't do anything else while playing, your computer should not be at risk. Or, if you prefer, you can uninstall and reinstall Avast to try to address the issue. Here are instructions for uninstalling:
https://support.avast.com/en-us/article/14
If you do uninstall and reinstall, be sure to reapply any necessary exceptions or other settings.
The Sims 4 errors in your dxdiag are sort of nonspecific. I mean, the error are specific, they're access violations, but they could be caused by anything from an issue with the game files themselves to a bad mod or custom content item to an overloaded save with too much going on. Since you don't have cc yet, the first move is to clear Origin's cache and repair the game: open your Origin game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Repair.
https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/
If that doesn't help, you could test in a new save, for comparison. And if you happen to have mods, test without them as well.
It's also possible that the game is being difficult. If you're playing through several sim days at a time, or even longer, without saving, the chances are that something might go wrong. I've managed to crash the game in a new save in a clean user folder with zero added content, after playing for all of ten minutes, because I did something in build mode the game engine had to think about and then tried to undo it before the process had finished. It's just part of playing Sims 4.
Finally, the game could also be crashing without an error code, at least some of the time, and that could be due to hardware issues. Your computer may be new to you, but your processor and graphics card are quite old by computer standards. We're not at that point yet, but if the other steps don't help, it's something to keep in mind.
- 5 years ago@puzzlezaddict Thanks. I did get an Avast permission message at one point concerning a sims file but I can't remember now whether it was before or after the last time it closed. I will monitor the situation and see what happens.
Thanks again for the advice 🙂 - 5 years ago
@puzzlezaddict It's just happened again. I did the perfmon command and clicked on the Sims 4 error. The attached is the error it gave. Don't know if it helps.

@hotluck644 That's the same Sims 4 error from before: an access violation that has several posssible causes. How long were you able to play before you saw the error? You said you don't have custom content, but do you have mods, and if so, have you tested without them? Please do that if you haven't already.
If that doesn't help, or you don't have mods, please clear Origin's cache and repair the game. If you get another crash, please try playing in a clean user folder: move your entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content. Don't add anything to that folder yet; just start a new save and see how it goes. You can consolidate your old and new content later, so if you want to take the opportunity to make some new sims or build a house, it will be easy to add your work to your existing saves later.
Whenever you do get a crash, please let me know what was happening in-game at the time, and how long you'd been playing before it happened. And save regularly, just in case.

@puzzlezaddict This is exactly what is happening with me, new PC. Every time the game crashes for the first time, it is maybe 2-3 hours in, and when I relaunch the time until it crashes is shorter.
I do not have any mods or cc, I will try moving the folder tonight, and see if that works.

@dumpkin2 Alright, if you get another crash, I'd love to see a dxdiag.
