sims 4 household and house missing after update

I hadn't opened origin in a few months so when i started it up a couple days ago it required me to update. After the update a few of my households and all of my houses i had built were missing.

a day later i got an email from office 365 that a large amount of files have been deleted from my laptop. when i checked my online recycle bin i can see that basically all of the cache files from sims 4 have been deleted along with 100's of files with names like "zoneObjects-06c50b0ab7b312f-6.sav" from "scratch" folders. To be clear i did not delete these, so is this normal for an update to do this?

i do have custom content downloaded which from what i've read could also be the issue. I have already tried turning off custom content & re-opening. I also tried moving my sims 4 folder onto my desktop, reopening and then adding my custom content back in. Nothing has worked so far.

any suggestions would be appreciated as i've spent hours building and now have nothing to show for it ☹️

  • @8HA5  Are your households and built houses missing from within saves, or just from your in-game iibrary, or are the saves themselves missing?  If saves are missing some content, are the saves older versions of themselves (like they're in week 10 and you got through week 12 when you last played), or are they fully caught up but just missing some data?

@puzzlezaddict  Missing from my in-game library. The weird thing is that the first household i created is missing but later households are there? Although I can't say the same for my houses as every house i have built is gone.

The first household and house i built is gone.

The second household i created is there but their house is gone.

The third household i created is there but their house is also gone.

Is the build mode saved differently vs. how households are saved?

  • @8HA5  Households and builds that are saved to your in-game library have corresponding files in the Tray folder.  Each Library entry has four or five corresponding Tray files, and if even one of those is deleted or removed, the Library entry may disappear.  So if a certain type of file was cleaned out of your Documents directory, it would make sense that any Library item that uses that type of file would also disappear.

The files for saved households will have the extensions .householdbinary, .hhi, .sgi, and .trayitem.  The files for saved lots will end in .bpi, .blueprint, and .trayitem.  There may be more than one .hhi or .bpi file for a given entry.  Although the files have cryptic names, you can sort them easily enough by their modified dates: all the files for a given Library entry will have been saved at exactly the same time.
