I had this problem myself and I figured out the culprit was my antivirus. I have Bitdefender and it kept blocking Sims from running. I had to go in and specifically allow the application (through safe files - Application access). This might not be the case for you; but I never found that solution myself when I had been searching.

For me, it was the antivirus. I have Windows 10 and Windows Defender was blocking it from opening. Go to your protection history in Windows Security and you will see the blocking activity there if this is the problem for you. Go to "Actions" to give access to the program.

Hi folks, while the error message is the same, the issues you're experiencing here would not be caused by the same thing this thread was discussing years ago so the advice may not be applicable. I'll lock this thread here.
