Sims 4 Lag After Neighborhood Update Pt. 2

My game was running fine until I updated my Sims 4 game for the neighborhood update. I’ve updated my mods so it’s not that. I’ve removed my origin cache and repaired my game. I’ve also removed screenshots, deleted the onlinethumbcache and unclicked the online thing (I forget what it’s called). I’ve tried emailing EA with a dxdiag but they gave automated responses of completely different issues like trouble downloading me game and getting into my account which I can do perfectly fine.

  • @cyberstxr  You can certainly compare your existing save, minus all that custom content you've removed, to the new save.  But the issue may be your computer's memory: 4 GB RAM isn't really enough to run Sims 4 well these days.  Some worlds use less memory than others, and new saves almost always use less than existing ones, but it's not like you'd want to start a new save every time the game begins to lag.

As a short-term solution, you can try playing with nothing else running on your computer aside from Origin.  Put Origin in offline mode as well.  If that's not enough, restart your computer, open the Task Manager's Startup list, and disable any program at startup that you don't absolutely need to run.  You'll still be able to open the others; it's just that they won't open on their own and use any of your computer's memory that Sims 4 really needs for itself.

Longer term, you may want to consider adding more RAM to your laptop.  It does have one unused slot, so you could add a matched 4, 8, or 16 GB stick to your existing soldered-in module.  As an example, these options are guaranteed compatible:

I'm not saying you'd necessarily want to buy from Crucial, just that you have options at a reasonable price.  8 GB more should be plenty, and if you can install it yourself or have a friend do it, you'd spend less than $40 U.S. for a significant improvement in performance.

Your laptop's hardware is otherwise fine for Sims 4, not really capable of ultra settings but certainly able to run the game without lag.  And while I see some errors in your dxdiag that might be causing game issues, they could also be unrelated, and in either case they're certainly addressable.  Since the new save ran fine, you can leave them for now if you want.

    Thank you for replying!

    I tried what you said:

1- I ran the game offline + Eco Lifestyle disabled, and it made a big difference!

2- I ran the game again in a new save connected to the internet but with Eco Lifestyle still disabled and it ran okay as well.

For the 3rd test, I enabled Eco Lifestyle and lag resumed in all worlds (but the base game worlds). I noticed this time that for some lots if I hit esc to open the menu in live mode and/or build mode, lag seems to get a bit better. For other lots (mainly bigger ones) that didn't seem to help.

@onlythreedots  It sounds like Eco Lifestyle is at least a significant part of the issue.  One thing you can try, since you probably don't want to play without the pack entirely, is disabling the eco footprint effects, the ones that make clean neighborhoods sparkle and the like.  A couple of players have reported that this helped with their lag too.

I don't know of a real fix to this particular issue, unfortunately.  There's always a chance it gets fixed in a patch, so I'd keep testing each time you update the game.

Unfortunately, disabling eco footprint didn't help, I'll have to wait it out if they end up fixing it. Until the patch, Eco Lifestyle wasn't really an issue for me. I wish I could roll back that update... but it is what it is.

    Thank you for your help!
