Sims 4 save files not showing

I’ve recently ran into a few issues trying to disable OneDrive and move my sims folder back onto my desktop. I was able to successfully unlink everything and add my mods and cc back into the game ~ as it shows me the pop up message at the start.

However, my save files aren’t showing up.

Whenever I go to leave the game and search in my sims 4 save folder, all of the save files are there, yet when I go to the game it only selects the oldest save file I have.

For example, I played first at 2am and then again at 3pm, yet whenever I join the sims it recovers the 2am save file… which doesn’t make sense as my folder shows both the 2am and 3pm save files in the folder.

I made quite a bit of progress between the two files and I’d like to not restart over from the first save.

When I try to click recover save, nothing shows.

Another note I’d like to mention is that the save files all have different version names. I do not believe there is any issues regarding the name of each save file. I also ensured that I moved the save files into the correct saves folder on my laptop, as the mods were moved within that same Sims 4 folder location.

I’m able to see all of my saves in the save folder yet the game only recognizes the oldest save file. They all have different names, so I do not believe that is the issue. I don’t know what to do.

  • @brileah11  You can simply delete the .ver0 from the most recent save, and the game should be able to load it.  These are the backup copies for a given save: the data from the last five times you saved before the most recent one.  (It looks like Slot_00000002.save itself was deleted somehow.)

This goes for any save with a .verx on the end, but if you recover another backup, be sure to rename it so it doesn't conflict with an existing save.  For example, if you recover the .ver1 copy, you'll need to rename it to Slot_00000004.save or higher.

  • @brileah11  Please post a screenshot of the contents of the saves folder, as in, I'd like to see the save files themselves.  Include the address bar, above the list of files and folders.

Please also let me know what antivirus you use.

I’ve attached the picture of my save files. Like I said, I’m not sure if the location is the issue because I added my mods and cc in the same location yet instead of it saying The sims 4 > saves, it says The sims 4 > mods, and that seemed to have worked.

I had everything in the wrong folder before and nothing seemed to work until I tried fixing it and adding everything where I showed in the screenshot.

Also I did say before I ran into issues with one drive as I moved everything out of that folder and into other folders… maybe that messed things up since I didn’t just directly un-sync it?

The file the sims 4 seems to be recognizing is the last save file in the screenshot, slot_00000003.save. I need it to recognize the Slot_00000002.save.ver0.

I’m just not understanding why it only recognizes the oldest save file and not the others.

Also there was another save file but i moved it out as I didn’t want that one to be recognized. Still, I feel it should notice the other ones despite that one being taken out?

^ I moved that specific save file out because I tried following someone else’s tips and renamed it something random such as “family.save” and I felt like that was a bad choice so I just took it out as mere minutes made that save file different from the one I’m trying to get back.

@puzzlezaddict Also, I don’t believe I have an antivirus set up… I’m not sure. I recently wiped the entire laptop clean to start over as whatever had been on it before wouldn’t allow me to update the sims and it had too many issues. I haven’t added an antivirus so, unless it comes with one, I’m not sure.

  • I think you unlinked the way I did the first time, Google for unlinking the onedrive with a command prompt. It was different, but it finally did work. It might still be using that stupid onedrive right now. It was a pain, older games couldn't even save.

Hi @puzzlezaddict! I recently reached out for help with a similar issue but this post has saved my life. Thank you so much for helping us fellow simmers out. The universe better serve you right for all you do! <3

Hi, I was having a similar problem, The saves were there but not showing up at all. The instructions helped to retrieve most of the saves all but the most recent new game from the last 3 days. I have deleted the version 0 from the folder but no luck. There was doubles from a previous slot 5 and I had deleted those also. I played last around noon. I have attached a screenshot of the files. The others have copies/doubles as well and it does not impact them.

@VickiT82430  The two highlighted files shoud have a .save extension rather than being labeled Slot_00000005 with nothing else in the name.  The files that end in .verx are backups, and you could delete that .verx extension and renumber the saves (so they have unique numbers), and they'd also be available to load in-game.

If this doesn't help, please list the path to the user folder Sims 4 is reading, as seen in-game.  Here's how to find it:
